21st Century Comics
(Fullerton, CA) Danny Doublin
reports:
"This year Free Comic Book Day has a
little more meaning for us; it was our grand opening for our new
location with the new owners of the store Noel and Kerri Cox. They just
took over the store from Barry Short in May and we were stuck at a
temporary location since March. We moved into the new place on June
29th, so that most of our customers would have their first day in the
new store on Wednesday, so they could find us on Free Comic Book Day. It
was a lot of hard work, but we did it and it was awesome.
"Free Comic Book Day was our grand
opening event. It was huge. We had hundreds of people in the store
through out the entire day. The best part was that not only did we have
our regular customers there, but we also had lots of new ones. That was
awesome seeing so many new people and a good number of them were kids.
Along with handing out the Free Comics, we ran games like the Joker's
Wheel of Misfortune. Noel, the owner of our store built it and then
contacted the very talented Joker and Harley Quinn from the custom
internet group Gotham Public Works. They were amazing and the crowds
loved them. They gave out prizes such as: Heroclix, VS Cards, Mini
Mates, Wedgies from Harley (pieces of paper cut in wedge shapes) and all
kinds of other prizes.
"We also ran Heroclix and Versus Demos,
which were a huge hit. Along with the Demos the owner unveiled his own
personal 3D Heroclix Map.
"Overall this year's Free Comic Book Day
was a huge success and a lot of fun for our store." |
