Captain Blue Hen Comics
(Newark,
DE)
May
8, 2006
Over one thousand people enjoyed the party at Captain Blue Hen Comics on Free
Comic Book Day.
Newark, Delaware was the place to be and aside from the once and future comic
fans in attendance Spider-Man, Batman, Star Wars characters from the 501st
Garrison all made appearances. Surprise guests included the mayor of Newark and
a Cylon Centurion. Items for the food drive filled a 30 gallon tub to capacity
and $350 was raised for the Kirkwood Library and its upcoming renovations. Comic
artists Mike Manley, Scott Neely, Jamar Nicholas, and four-time returning champ
Neil Vokes sketched and signed for six straight hours.
Captain Blue Hen himself made an appearance in the SkyDog Press FCBD offering ?Buzzboy
Sidekicks Rule #1? and the book?s creators John Gallagher and Rich Faber were on
hand and helped make Buzzboy the most requested title of the day.
Sales for the day put FCBD in the top three for the year and attendance was up
25% over 2005. Doorprize surveys showed that many had learned of FCBD from their
local library. Well over a hundred people flashed their library cards to get
extra free comics.
Another successful event and the only downside to FCBD 06 is trying to figure
out how to top it in 2007.
